Question
I have a 1909 coin with NEDERLANDSCE INDIE 2 1/2 CENT  could you give me any information on it? It has what looks like a shield with a crown on top on one side and forign markings on the other, would really appricate you help.

Answer
Hi Bernadette,
This is a coin from the Dutch East Indies, or present day area of Indonesia. They are not particularly rare, and condition is very important to value. A coin with significant wear will only be worth a few dollars, while one without any signs of wear and red luster wil be as much as $100.
It would not be possbile to give you an exact value without knwoing the condition, or preferrably seeing a clear picture of the coin.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
