Question
I have 4 dimes that have caught my attention. I am new to this hobby of coins with errors and/or rare coins. If you could assist me it would greatly be assist. 2005 Dime, the number 5 is so close that the bottom half of the 5 where it curves rides right along the edge of the coin thus making it longer and it resembles a tail. 2004 Dime, the bottom part of the coin is blurred. so that the I (in) the W (we) and the 4(2004)are distorted, faded and are barely legible. 1999 dime, marks or scratches 2 ea above  date and 1 that is wide and resembles his hair being blown forward over his forehead towards his eye. it is wavy and does have streaks. 1979 Dime, W (we) is distorted to close to edge of the coin. question: do you think i have something here ? Any value ?

Answer
Roger,

Coins 1, 2, and 4 are just due to dies being used to the point of wearing out -- nothing there.

Coin 3 is hard to tell without seeing, but sounds like some kind of damage after the coin left the mint -- no value there either.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
