Question

Copped Edged Dime
I have a retail business and recieved a dime from a customer that has a copper edge.  The edge is rounded and pressed to the coin.  The dime appears to be normal other than the copper edge.  I have atached several images.

Answer
Cory,

The coin has been altered by either repeated taps with a hammer-like object along the edge or some kind of machine that rounded the edge by applying pressure all around.

Considered altered, it has no collecdtor value.  Go ahead and spend it so I can get asked again by the next person to get it!

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
