Coin and Paper Money Collecting/German 1924 Drei Mark

Question
My grandmother recently gave me a coin she had found along with her dead husband's WWII collection.
It says Drei Mark 1924, and "Deutsches Reich" around those words. It also has a small F on the bottom of this side.
On the back is a gothic looking eagle. Also, the most interesting part: around the outside, the edge of the coin, are the words "einigkeit und recht und freiheit,"  which I believe mean Unity and Justice and Freedom.
I've also figured out that this coin is from Germany and the eagle is the German Reich's Empirical Eagle. That's about all I know about it.
I was wondering if you could give me any more information on this coin? Or perhaps if you had any idea of what it might be worth?
Thanks. :)

Answer
Hi Rachel,
Your translation is correct. This coin is from the Weimar Republic period of German history, where the focus was on recovery and reconcilliation after WWI. The words on the edge of the coin were meant to promote that.
They are fairly common, with several million coins made that year with the F mint mark. Value starts at $10 to $15 for one that has moderate to heavy wear. In excellent condition, without any wear and luster they are closer to $100.
I would not be able to give you an exact value since I have not seen the coin and the condition.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
