Question
I received a "Proof Replicas of the Most Sought After US Silver Dollars" wood box collection from someone who purchased it from the Postal Commemorative Society.  12 coins total.
1732 VTRAQUE VNUM,
1794 LIBERTY
1836 c.gobrecht
1885 420 grains, 900 fine trade dollar
1772 carolus III, dei gratia
1797 liberty
1866 one dol.
1893 e pluribus unum
1776 continental currency
1804 liberty
1870 liberty
1921 liberty

all say .999 fine silver A803 on the side of each coin

How much could I sell this for on ebay?  Value?  Thanks

Answer
Mary,

Being privately minted replicas, their value will essentially only be for the silver they contain -- plus maybe a buck or two for the fancy box.

So add up the weight of all the pieces in grams and divide by 31.1 to get it into Troy ounces.

Then go to http://www.kitco.com to get the current silver spot price (currently about $33).  Take this price and multiply by the above number -- this will give you the melt value of the silver in them.  This is about all you can expect to get for them on eBay.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
