Coin and Paper Money Collecting/State quarter letter error

Question
I have a 1999 Georgia state quarter that has missing letters in the "In God We Trust". It says " In God 'W' Trus't' basically the e in we is mising and the last t in trust is missing and are barely visable when you study it closer, it is absolutely a mint error and not purposely done. I was wondering if this is common possibly what would this go for in the collectors market.... This is my first find of an error and was pretty pumped and just curious what it may go for, even though I probably wouldn't part with it.

Answer
Charles,

This is actually one of the more common errors on today's coins.  What happens is a foreign substance -- likely machine grease -- gets into the coin die and prevents the complete striking of the coin, causing missing letters and such.  As the grease wears away, more and more of the details of the missing letters returns.  This is likely what you have.

Collector interest is low -- value at a dollar or two.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
