Coin and Paper Money Collecting/without the reed

Question
Hi,

My name is Glenn and I have a question. I was going through the change in my pocket and found a quarter with the edge not having a reed. What struck my attention was the sound that the quarter made against all my other coins. Almost had a ping sound. Could this quarter be worth mare than face value?

Answer
Hi Glen,
My guess is that it is dated before 1965.  Silver quarters have a ping sound almost like a little bell.
If the details are worn, the reeding probably just wore down.  As a silver quarter it is worth about $5.
