Question
Was there copper pennies minted in 1944 and 1945?

Answer
Yes, at all three mints so there are 1944 plain 1944D, 1944S, 1945 plain 1945D and 1945S cents.
the 1944 cents were made from 70% copper spent shell casings and 100% copper ignots to have the same copper content as in other years.  See http://reviews.ebay.com/1943-and-1944-Steel-and-Copper-Cents_W0QQugidZ1000000000... for more information, Jim
