Question
1936 one penny
1936 one penny
Hi Dmitry
I don't know if you can help or not. I purchased a 1936 one penny awhile ago. I think it might be a proof coin. It is shiny on both sides.Could you look at the scans and let me know?
                                    Thank You

Answer
Hi Wayne,
Unfortunately this coin is shiny due to being cleaned. A proof coin would not be all shiny. The raised features like the portrait and wording would have a frosted look and the fields in between would be almost like a mirror. It would not be shiny all over.
This coin also has wear, which you would not expect to find on a proof coin.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
