Question
Large $5.00 Nat\'l Currency
Large $5.00 Nat'l Curr
Hi Mr. Fern,

I asked a question a few months ago about what a large blue seal $5.00 National Currency bill issued by Franklin National Bank of Jersey City and dated January 22, 1923 might be worth.  You asked for more info, and I scanned the bill and sent it to you.

I was wondering if you know where I might go in Los Angeles or the surrounding area to sell this item.  I think it is in very good condition with no tears.

Answer
Hi Again Lynn:

Thanks for the opportunity to answer another of your questions.

I would recommend you get at least two estimates from professional coin dealers (PNG) or (NGC). I've listed two links for you to find them in your area. Link: http://www.pngdealers.com/dealersearch.php or http://www.ngccoin.com/services/dealer_listing.asp?state=CA

If you want a recommendation, I'm familiar with Barry Stuppler & Company Inc. in Woodland Hills, CA; D.H. KETTERLING, WESTLAKE VILLAGE, CA; GILLIO & ASSOCIATES, Toluca Lake, CA; Liberty Coin Galleries, Signal Hill, CA; Superior Galleries, Inc., Woodland Hills, CA; and Southland Coin & Currency, Woodland Hills, CA. Contact information is posted on the links I provided.

Dealers normally pay between 50% to 60% of retail for items they want.

I believe him to be very articulate and credible. I would recommend Mr. Fern to anyone wanting an answer about old paper money, and its possible worth. Very professional. Lynn Godley
