Coin and Paper Money Collecting/coin evaluation

Question
Dmitry: I have 3 mark German 1000th anniv. founding of Dinkelsbuhl. AU condition with slight dings on the rim. Value? Do you think E-bay is the proper venue or can you suggest something better?

Answer
Hi Jim,
Sorry for the late reply.
This coin is quite rare, with only 40,000 coins ever made and a pretty vibrant German coin collecting community out there. They were only made by one mint (D mint mark), unlike many other 1920's Weimar Germany commemorative coins that were made simultaneously at multiple mints.
A solid AU with slight rim dings and no other issues would be worth $600 to $700 if it has no other problems such as cleaning/rubbing, likely a little more if it were being sold in Germany.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
