Question
My brother recently found a mexican coin, gold colored dated 1935.
It is labeled 100  estapdos and has writing unitos mexicos.  can you give me any information re this coin and its value.  thank you

Answer

Hi Nancy,
This would be a Mexican 100 pesos from 1985. The 8 can sometimes have parts of the loops missing, making it look like a 3. I have attached a picture for confirmation.
Unfortunately it would not have a significant value, being a modern coin with many millions having been made. In perfect condition this coin is worth a few dollars, but circulated, stained or damaged coins do not have collectible value at this time.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
