Question
Mystery Coin
Mystery Coin
Mr. Livshits,
I recently remembered the combination to one of my old safes, and I was going through its contents, when I found a piece of my old coin collection. There was one coin that I did not recognize. It is in sorry shape, which I apologize for. I am attaching an image of it to this letter in the hopes that you may tell me where it is from, and possibly, how much it is worth. Thank you for any help you can offer.

Answer
Hi Paul,
This is a silver 50 ore coin from Norway. They are pretty low mintage coins and are also very popular with collectors. Unfortunately this one is pretty well worn and also has some damage. It would be worth $8 to $12 in this condition.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
