Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Reference Book for 20th century US coins

Question
I have accumulated silver coinage (pre-1965) quarters, dimes, half-dollars over the years.  I would like to start grading them and/or researching their rarity (or lack thereof).

Can you recommend a good reference manual that covers such coinage?  Basically I'm trying to see what can be traded as "bulk" and what I should keep as "collectible".

They're all US coins.

Answer
Hi Erik,
Go for the Redbook, this one here is the most recent edition: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0794833470/ref=pd_lpo_k2_dp_sr_2?pf_rd_p=486539...

It's a great book and you can pick one up for under $15 brand new.

If you are looking only for reference info, such as mintage, and not updated values then you need not purcahse the most recent edition. Any of the last few editions will have a full list of such US coins, along with varieties and some basic guidlines for grading.

There are other books out there as well, but these are usually more specialized to cetrain types of coins and are a lot more expensive.

Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
