Question
I inherited 45 1879 thru 1921 silver dollars, various mints plus Eisenhour dollars and JFK half dollars, multitude of wheat pennies and others. Where is my best bet for selling? We don't have a coin dealer where I live, probably Lincoln or Omaha would be closest.

Answer
Joni,

Generally speaking, circulate silver dollars are worth about $28 apiece -- some that are rarer dates or better condition will be more -- those that are well worn, damaged, or cleaned will be less.

To see if you have any rarer dates, you can check the list here :

http://www.numismedia.com/fmv/prices/mordlr/pricesgd.shtml

It's a retail price guide, but it will tell you if you have any rare dates.

The Eisenhower dollars and Kennedy halves are prettymuch too common to have any significant collector value -- if you have silver ones, they have that value.

And wheat cents are generally worth about 2.5 cents apiece in circulated condition.  You can check the following list for rare dates :

As for selling them, check the following web sites for listings of coin shows where you can take them and get competing offeres for the dealers at the show :

You may also be able to find a local coin dealer listed on the ANA website here :

I hope this answers all your questions,

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
