Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Spanish Coin?

Question
1623 Spanish Coin
1623 Spanish Coin
I know you said you knew about 18th century coins.  I was hoping you might know something about coins from a little earlier.  I've got a coin that looks to be dated 1623.  It looks Spanish to me.  Can you tell me anything about it and/or its general value?  If you don't know anything about it, do you know where I could find some information on it?  I don't even know what search terms or words to use to try and look something up.

It looks like I might only be able to upload one picture.  If you want a picture of the back, email me and I'll send it to you.

Thanks,

Garrett

Answer

Hi Garrett,
This is a German silver thaler, from Lower Saxonx and depicting Chritian the Older, prince of Luneberg. This coin is from the specific German state of Brunswick-Luneberg-Celle. In this condition the value is around $200-$250.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
