Question
I have no idea what this is but was in with a collection I inherited so makes me wonder. Anyway the strange part is blotches or bubbles on both sides. I loaded them to a webpage so you can see them. I had to mess with the color to show the problem better. One side shows the quarter and the other shows the problem circled..Thanks for any help,,Greg

Answer
Greg,

Thank you for the pictures.

This is what can happen when a coin gets caught in a fire.  The outer layer of copper/nickel heats up at a different rate than the inner copper core, causing bubbling on the surface.

Considered damaged, the coin has no collector value.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
