Coin and Paper Money Collecting/coin value

Question
Hi. My friend has a 3 mark with a left-facing profile on the front of Friedrich II Grossherzog Von Baden with G at bottom.  On the back is a crowned spread eagle, with "Deutsches Reich 1914 Drei Mark". Can you tell me the approximate current value, and perhaps the best way to sell it? Thank you so much!

Answer
Hi Lisa,
This silver coin from the German State of Baden is a fairly common one. Auction value is generally $20 to $25 for one in good shape without any problems. A retail value in a coin shop would be higher, but unless you have a connection to such a shop your best bet for selling it is eBay.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
