Question
I came across a few items while going through a passed relatives belongings that were left to me and would love your insight on them.

1886 - $5 gold Liberty head coin. Reverse has eagle with shield on chest, "In God We Trust" above head. Very good condition. S mint.

1895 - Liberty head nickel. Reverse has Roman numeral V and United States of America around it. Fairly worn.

1896 - Bryan dollar. Reverse has 16 - 1 NIT. Good definition but dull and nicked up.

1897 - Barber quarter. Reverse has eagle holding banner, shield on chest. Well worn.

1909 - $5 gold Indian head. BLP present above year. Reverse has eagle, "In God We Trust", "E Pluribus Unum". Very good condition.

1911 - Liberty head nickel identical to 1895 counterpart.

1935 - Mercury dime. Fairly worn.

I've searched for a few of these but I would prefer a expert opinion. Thanks.

Answer
Chris,

Assuming you want estimated values, then based on your descriptions ....

1886-S $5 gold Liberty -- $350.00

1895 - Liberty head nickel -- $3.00

1896 - Bryan dollar -- this is a privately minted political piece, expressing the 16 to 1 ratio of the price of gold to silver, that William Jennings Bryan professed at the time.  I would need to see pictures of both sides to properly attribute and estimate value for this piece (I would also love to be able to buy it).

1897 - Barber quarter -- silver value $7.00

1909 - $5 gold Indian head (BLP is the designer's initials -- Bela Lyon Pratt) -- $400.00
Check the reverse, to the left of the arrowheads for an "O" mintmark -- if it has one, it will be worth thousands -- any other (or no) mintmark is common.

1911 - Liberty head nickel -- $0.50

1935 - Mercury dime -- silver value $2.80

I hope this helps -- please reply with pics of the Bryan Dollar

I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
