Coin and Paper Money Collecting/German 20 mark gold coins

Question
Hi Dmitry,

I just came across 2 German gold coins which my parents had in their possession.

One is a 20 mark Kaiser Wilhelm II 1904 and the other is a 20 mark Kaiser Wilhelm I 1876. Both are in pristine condition.

Could you possibly provide a value amount?

Thanks...Jen

Answer
Hi Jen,
These coins are scarce in pristine condition and do carry a collectible premium above just gold bullion value.
Both coins are from the German state of Prussia.
The 1876 will be worth in the $500 range in mint condition, if it has a letter A under the bust of Wilhelm.
If the letter is C instead of A, the value will be triple that.
The 1904 will be worth in the $500 to $600 range in mint condition. All of these have a letter A.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
