Question
Hello, I have recently been interested in collecting coins, including wheat pennies. I have tried to figure out values, but I have gotten very different values from many different websites..Is there anyway you could send me an accurate chart that I could go by? And i was wondering how much a fine 1911 wheat penny would be worth?

Answer
Anthony,

I can save you alot of looking at charts, and eliminate the majority of your wheat pennies ...

Anything in circulated condition, with a date from 1934 to 1958, is going to be worth 2.5 cents each -- that's all you're going to get from any dealer.

For the stuff dated 1933 and older, there will also be a lot of dates that in circulated condition will end up being worth only a couple cents apiece.  You can use the same guide that almost any coin dealer uses : The Coin Dealer Newsletter Monthly Summary.  All the wheat pennies from 1933 and older are listed there in all grades.  You can order a copy of it from :

http://www.greysheet.com/web_order/currissu_form.asp

There is also an online RETAIL price guide online here :

The current CDN lists the fine 1911 cent at $1.00

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
