Question
How do I know what MS grade is?  Coins are 1971 & don't where minted. What would their value be considered?

Answer
Sonia,

Determining MS grade is a practice that takes time to learn.  It's subjective, so one person's MS grade opinion may differ from another's.  Being inexperienced, the best thing for you to do would be to take them to a coin show, show them to a couple different dealers, and see what they grade them.

The mintmark -- if it has one -- will be located right above the date, like in the one pictured here :

1971 is the most common year there is for these dollar coins.  Generally only "S" mintmarked ones will have any value -- they will either be proof issues or will contain silver.  The ones with no mintmark or a "D" mintmark are considered very common, and unless they are in absolutely perfect gem uncirculated condition, they will only be worth about $1.05

If you wish to take them to a coin show, check the following websites for listings of shows in your area :

I hope this helps,

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
