Question
1907 side
1907 side
I have a 2 kroner coin that I was wondering how much it is worth. On one side the side that I have sent a picture of it says it's from 1907. On the other side it states, NORGES UAFHANGIGHED GJENNEMFORT 1905 with two rifles underneath the phrase. Then outlining the coin there are seven hands shaking. I saw online that some people say that this is a rare coin, so I was wondering how much it is worth.
Thank You.

Answer
Hi Tyler,
Good find!
This is indeed a rare coin. There are two varieties, one just like this without the rifles would be worth about $50 in this condition. Yours is much more valuable.

I am always suspicious of authenticity when looking at pictures of rare coins, but I see nothing about your coin to suggest it's a copy. The surface, details and wear pattern all look correct.
Now, the coin does have some wear and also appears to have a few small rim dings and thin surface scratches.
Assuming the other side is in the same condition, this coin is still worth $300-$400 at auction and more like $500 in a direct retail situation. A coin without wear or any problems would be worth well over $1,000.

Thanks for the question! =)

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
