Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Canadian 1867-1967 medallion

Question
You previously answered a question about the value of the Canadian confederation medallion. Does the medallion have any more value if it is in the original plastic package?          Thank you, Mike

Answer
Hi Mike,
In an auction setting with low starting bid, it's not likely to sell for any more. However, the original packaging certainly justifies asking a higher price in a retail situation or auction with starting bid at expected sale price. Most collectors would just remove it from mint packaging and put into their own holders so it fits with the rest of their collection. In my experience, the people who specifically collect items in mint packaging are willing to pay more for such (within reason of course).
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
