Question
Chinese coins
Chinese coins
Hello,
This seems to be a pretty common subject, but I also have some chinese coins that I suspect are fake.
Can you help me figure it out?
I attached a picture with 4 coins, hope you can help me.
Thanks.

Answer
Hi Felipe,
The bottom three are indeed fake. I can tell that from the pictures. The top one is likely also fake, since it is a rare type. However, the top one does not look obviously fake to me like the other three do. The surfaces and color look closer to old coins than new copies. If it weighs 27 grams, then there is a possibility that it's not fake. If it's well below that, then it can not be real.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.

Experience

Collector of world coins since early childhood. Access to a variety of auction records and reference material. You can also find me on Facebook.
