Question
Hi Dmitri

I have an uncirculated East Africa 10 cents 1950- WITHOUT a centre hole. How much is it worth, and how many were minted?
It is not listed in my World Coins Catalog.

Thank You for your time and effort.

Answer
Hi Jarek,
Nice find. These coins are occasionally found without a punched center hole or with a hole that is punched off-center.
This is an error, they were not minted this way so there are no known mintage figures for the error varieties.
Also, the error coins are usually in uncirculated condition, because they were taken out of circulation by collectors right from the beginning.
Value for your coin is in the $50 range, which is much higher than what the normal coin is worth.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
