Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Franklin Mint Medallions

Question
This question relates to a similar question from April of this year.  I have a collection of United States Conference of Mayors medals in the box.  The collection features cities rather than states.  These are sterling silver.  Somehow, the New York city medal disappeared.  Although difficult, could you advise the best source to obtain just this one medal?

Answer
Ouch!  That's going to be next to impossible.  You can find complete sets for sale, but finding individual pieces is gonna be tough.  You'd have to find somebody that either decided to break apart a set and sell each piece individually, or has missing pieces like you do, or catch somebody that just bought a set and doesn't care if he breaks it apart and will sell you the one piece you need.

In any case, you're gonna have to get lucky to find that missing piece.  And to be honest with you, unless you plan to keep the set, it's not going to be worth the effort, unless you get really lucky.  You could probably buy another complete set, then sell your set that's missing one, and end up only about $100 apart in the difference -- that may be the only practical way you're going to get a full set again.

If you buy stuff on eBay, you can try setting up a saved search for Conference of Mayors in the coins category, and have it send you an email when something gets listed -- maybe eventually you might find somebody selling individual pieces.

Good luck!

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
