Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Mexican Token

Question

Hey Dmitry, I have another Mexican token that I can't find any record of (see picture). It's undated and is very unusual, as it's configuration is half medal/half coin...when you flip it over, the eagle's head is pointing off to the side (use the hole for orientation). What is this token? What is it worth with the hole in it? Would it be worth anything if it wasn't pierced? Thank you again!

Answer
Hi Robby,
This is actually a button that someone turned into pendant or other hanging jewelry piece.
It's not really designed after any coins or tokens, pretty much a fantasy design. The J.R.M. would denote the maker, but I doubt it would be possible to research this maker today. The alignment is such that one side appears face up, and the other side is positioned with the button loop horizontal. Unfortunately this item would not have a significant value, likely just a couple of dollars as a curiosity.
Thanks again for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
