Coin and Paper Money Collecting/misprinted vermount quarter

Question
Hello.I have found a quarter that has the Lincoln memorial stamped across the face of George Washing. At first I thought that maybe a penny and quarter somehow got fused together, but after looking at it closely I noticed that the design was protruding outward not inward. There is also parts of a circle and if you turn the penny and the quarter so that building match you can see the N&T of the word cent matches. My question is, is this a fake or something valuable?

Answer
Otis,

Since you cannot fit a quarter into the machine when pennies are being stamped, and since the second image appears only on one side of the coin, I have to believe this was something done to the quarter after it left the mint.  Most likely somebody that worked at a stamping plant got bored and experimented with his pocket change.

Considered altered, this would have no collector value.

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
