Question
1943D reichs Pfennig
1943D reichs Pfennig
Hello...
I have this 1943 D reichspfennig that looks like it has doubling on it.The doubling looks flat ,like machine doubling. But the normal letters are also flat. All my Reichspfennig have flat lettering.Could this be a real Double?

Answer
Hi Monika,
Nazi German coins from the Munich (D) mint are commonly found with real die doubling. On your coin it looks like there is separation between the left side of the D and the doubled image. Such separation is a clear sign of double die rather than machine doubling.
Please also note that the values for these are not significant, as they are relatively easy to find.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
