Question
1970s Small Date,RPM
1970s Small Date,RPM
Hello Sir,
I found this 1970s Small Date Penny (#4pic).It shows that the Mint Mark may be Hit twice.I saw on Ken Potters site He is selling them too.Is this a nice Penny? Is it worth holding on to?
I see some doubling around the letter but too hard to see via a 3....In the Letter L and W I can see Doubing with 3X!! LCR sites says that folks have really gone nuts over searching Rolls over this one for a DDO? Wow!
I read on another site selling Proof copies for $50.00 a Piece (without) the RPM.That these are getting "Tricky" to find!

Look foward to your thoughts on this find.God Bless.

Beck,
Kissimmee FL
PS: I got another one that like a AU to MS-Brown,too.

Answer
Beck,

The $50 price tag for a proof is a totally different thing -- yours is not a proof.  The uncirculated small date sells for about $25 -- however yours is not uncirculated.  I would estimate the value for your circulated coin at $5 to $10 -- that is not counting the possible DDO or RPM.

While a DDO would make it worth thousands, if you don't have the clear doubling of the date and all the lettering -- as shown in the pictures on the LCR site -- then you don't have that rare DDO.

While there may be collector interest in the RPM -- if that's what you have -- I would expect it's only going to be worth a couple dollars more at best in circulated condition.

I hope this helps,

Dan

I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
