Question
I just purshased An Anacs graded ms 67 1972 s Eisenhower dollar that is a standard matte/ satin finish on the obverse , but very proof/ shiny on the reverse. Is this unusual/ rare/ valuable? I have not been able to find one like it online , and my local coin dealer has not seen one like it. Thanks for any info you might have.

Answer
Greg:

The Silver Ike surface variations are new to me. It is possible that either a uncirculated die missed the matte process and retained proof-like qualities in an early striking, or a proof die was somehow used for the reverse of the uncirculated coin.

I found a specialized group you should contact for added information: http://www.ikegroup.info/index.php

Here are several related articles for you to review: http://ikegroup.org/IKEMETALLURGYANDY.htm  and http://www.supercoin.com/iketypes/

Hope this helps. Let me know what you find out.
