Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Edward VIII 1937 Penny

Question
I have an old coin collection given to me by my father and I have come across a 1937 Edward VIII Penny. It seems that this may be a valuable coin by previous questions to you. Can you advise on this and I am based in Ireland?

Many Thanks

Shaun Boyce

Answer
Hi Shaun. Pretty low vale, I'm afraid. In the best condition possible (Uncirculated) this coin is worth £6.00. 1937 was the year of George VI's coronation, so I guess that's who you mean?

Now let us assume you mean the abdicated King, Ed VIII. No coins were actually made for circulation, so you either have a fake or you have a stunningly rare pattern coin with a book value (Spinks) of £50,000.

Which do you think is more likely? If you have  real one, we need to talk more.
