Question
Mr.Livshits,

I have one very sm. 1/4 real 1888 Guatemala I believe.  This coin is in very fine condition.  The lion on one side and three mountains on the other.  No print whatsoever. Would you be able to tell me an approx. value (as I have no Picture) But could send you one if is of value. Content is silver.

Thank you,
Debbi

Answer
Hi Debbie,
These little "pill" coins are quite popular. world coin catalogs list it at just a couple of dollars in Very Fine, but if it has good eye appeal and original surfaces you would not have too much trouble selling it for $10.
The type you have was only made for 2 years and the mintage is relatively low, which both help the price.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
