Question
Hi Ronald,

Happy New Year.  I hope you enjoyed your vacation.

I came across a small Y NOT cut out 1953 New York City Token.  I've been trying to figure out its value and I came across your web page.  Did you ever come across an actual value for the token??

Many Thanks,
Daniel

Answer
Daniel:

Thanks. It wasn't much of a vacation. I just wanted to stay away from the hobby for a few days during the end of the year.

Thanks for your question.

I'm not very familiar with the specific token, but I remember seeing them offered from time to time. I did find several sites on NY Tokens that may be of some help to you. See: http://www.nycsubway.org/tech/tokens/tokensmedals.html or http://www.nycsubway.org/tech/tokens/

I also searched eBay for completed listings, but could only find one with an off center cut out of the "Y" for a reserve of $39.95 that did not sell. My guess is that your token without the "Y" cut out would be in the $35 to $50 range.

If you live close to a local shop, they should offer an opinion as to the value at no charge. Always try and get at least two opinions and try and deal with PNG dealers if possible. If you should decide to sell your items to a dealer, remember they will offer about 50% to 60% of the retail value. Here's a link to find one in your area: http://www.pngdealers.com/dealersearch.php
