Question
LOUIS XVI ROI DES FRANCOIS 1791 coin mint mark A.  Coin in excellent shape. Possible value?  I found the same coin for sale on the Internet for 65,00EUR the equivalent of $8000.00.  Is this possible or am I dreaming.  The coin was my father in laws brothers.  He gave it to me ten years ago.  The owner before my father in law was a coin collector. Thanks for any help on this coin.  Kurt

Answer
Hi Kurt,
That price would be 65 euros. For some reason they use a comma instead of a period and that causes people to read it as thousands.
As far as the value of your coin, I would need to see a clear picture of it. The wording is found on coins of various denominations. A picture would tell me which you have as well as condition, which is very important to price.
Thanks for the question! =)

Expertise

My specialty is world coins from the 18th to 20th centuries, primarily non-US foreign coins and related areas such as errors and exonumia (tokens, medals, etc.). I can answer questions relating to identification, grading, selling, preservation and evaluation of such items. In addition to catalog value, I can give you the practical market value and trends for specific types of coins. I will also take questions regarding counterfeits (both modern and antique) and on how to identify them. I am NOT knowledgeable in paper money/banknotes, ancient or "shipwreck" coins. Thank you.
