Coin and Paper Money Collecting/1983-D

Question
Steven,

Good Wednesday afternoon,

I have a 1983-D Lincoln cent that appears to be a steel coin. Similar to the 1943 steel pennies.  I have not seen one like this before and just wanted to see your thoughts.

Thank you,

Steven Gregory

Answer
Steven,

There are a lot of instances that I have seen where someone will plate a coin in order to make it seem like a mint mistake.  I am sure that is what happened here.  However, if you send me a picture I would be better able to tell...

I can answer most questions regarding United States coinage from colonial times to present. I am aware of current market values and can usually give a close estimate as to the value of a coin. If you could send a picture it makes it easier to place a value. I am not educated in the area of world coins or any type of currency. I am an avid researcher and would love to tackle any questions you may have for me!
