Question
Rix dollar
Rix dollar
Hi Dr. kavan,

i would like to know if the attached photos of a 1802 rix dollar is of a genuine one, since many fake coins are in circulation would appreciate it if you could  assist me in identifying it.

Regards,

Eranga

Answer
First that is not a Rix Dollar. It is 1/192 fraction of
a Rix Dollar or with 48 Stivers to a Rix Dollar, equal
to 1/4 Stiver.

I wrote an illustrated web page about Modern replica of Early
British Ceylon coins which is posted at
http://coins.lakdiva.org/fake/ceylon/
but this denomination was not among them.

This coin is discussed in
http://coins.lakdiva.org/ceylon_government/1802_f192rxd.html

It is difficult to say more without a weight to 0.01 grams
and with image of just one side of the coin

Sorry for delay in answer, my previous answer seems to have
not gone through into the system.
