Question
QUESTION: I have several half dollars that appear very strongly to be non-clad, ie pre-clad silver from the early clad years.  How rare are these and what is potential value?  Most are in very good to exceptional condition.  Vey clear.

ANSWER: If you are referrng to half dollars dated before 1965, they are 90% silver.
Currently, those coins are worth about $8 each for their silver alone.

QUESTION: Thsnks Joe.  But is there no chance at all they could have been from the 90% silver planchets?  How would I find out?   Is there any place close to Amarillo or Lubbock Tx. where I could take them to find out?

Answer
Anything is possible, but the odds are pretty slim.  I could see the potential for coins dated 1965 whereby the mint machine still had 90% blanks in the hopper.  But later years?  I don't think so.

Check your local phone book or the internet for a dealer.  I don't know any dealers in your area.

Joe
