Question
I was reading about a 1980 half dollar with a stamp of Lincoln on the left. You clam that someone stamped it there for novelty. I have one that was ordered from the Wellington mint. Attached is a card about the similarities of both deaths. No gold plating. I'm just trying to find about what it is worth.nonmint, but good condition. Thank you for your time.

Answer
Hi George,

Wellington Mint (a private company) is one of those companies that makes up and sells common coins in pretty packages for way too much money.

There is an example of their work that recently sold on eBay.  Along with the coin, they included 3 other things in each package, along with a certificate.  A set of 5 of these packages sold for a total of $16.16 -- about $3.25 per package.  While these did not have the Lincoln stamped into the coin, they were gold plated, and were originally sold by Wellington Mint at about the same time as your coin.

I would estimate the novelty value of your coin at a couple dollars -- you just have to find an interested buyer.

I hope this helps,

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
