Question
Hello,Mike again about that 1968 quarter, had it weighed and it was 4.0grams any idea on this. went to local gold and silver shop to weigh it,should I take it to reputable coin shop this is weird

Answer
Hi Mike,

I'm prettymuch stumped now too.  The only thing I can offer is that the U.S. Mint has been striking coins for other countries for about 150 years, so it's possible your coin was struck on a foreign blank.  If so, it could be worth a LOT of money.

I would suggest you contact a nationaly known error coin expert I know :

mike@mikebyers.com

You will need to make sure you provide accurate measurements of weight, diameter, and thickness if possible.  And you will need to provide pictures of both sides and the edge of the coin.

If Mike can't help you, nobody can.

Good luck!

Dan

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.

Experience

I've been a coin dealer since the 1980's and a coin collector since the 1960's. I specialize in U.S. Silver Coins and have an active online website -- The Working Man's Rare Coins -- http://www.workingmancoins.com -- offering information and inventory in U.S. coins.
