I recently asked if you could tell me something about a 1976 penny and you asked for the dimensions and weight of it. The penny is approx 2mm thick, approx 18mm in diameter, and weighs 3.1 grams. Pictures attached. Thanks for any help.

The better pics helped. This is a modified coin. Altered coins have no added numismatic value. The coin was "tapped" by some sort of a tool to "hammer" it down slightly in size, rolling up the rim to make the coin appear to be thicker in diameter than normal. Also called a "spooned" coin. It is possibly an attempt to make a coin ring. Prisoners who had time on there hand sometimes did this, but usually with silver coins.
