Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Brown discoloring around coin edges

Question
I have a set of Silver Eagles, graded by ANA at ms69.
Almost every one of them are turning brown around the outer
edges. Would you be familiar as to why this is happening?
Will this devalue the coins?

Answer
Hello Paul,

I am guessing you have had the coins graded Mint State 69 and Encapsulated by ANACS?

Toning does not reduce the value of a coin, it may be harder to sell a toned coin than a white coin in the same grade, and in general a non-toned coin gets a higher price.
Some contend that not all coins tone, silver or otherwise. If sealed in an airtight environment, the surfaces of a coin will deplete sulfur and other chemicals around it and stop toning after that.
Intercept Shield coin holders are designed to intercept and neutralize sulfur and other contaminants and thus prevent toning.  Your coins may have been lightly toned and continued after encapsulation.

Try to keep your coins in  a cool dry place using acid-free medium like Photograph storage boxes or inert plastics like Tupperware. I also put a desiccant like silica-gel in the Tupperware or storage area.
