Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Coins.......specifically Quarter

Question
I found a quarter that has no ridges on the side...it is totally smooth like it missed a step in the mint process.  Could it be worth anything?

Answer
Hello, I'm no expert on error coins, so it might make sense for you to show this to an expert at a coin show or a coin shop.  My best guess is that the most likely explanation (though certainly not the only one) is that someone filed off the reeding (that's what those ridges are called).  People like to play with coins.

You may want to try going to www.ebay.com and www.google.com and doing searches for quarter without reeds, or similar searches to see if anything pops up.

Hope this helped, Jim Lawniczak
