Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Compressed SBA coin

Question
Hi Dan
My mother has a Susan B. Anthony coin that is compressed in inwards. The circumference of the coin is the same as a normal SBA coin but the width of the coin is less than a normal SBA coin. I heard SBA are quite common, but this coin we have seems to be unique brought about possibly by a production malfunction. I was wondering if this coin would be of any worth in the coin collecting community.

Answer
Hi Jonathan,

It's possible that your coin was struck on a quarter blank.  Weigh it.  A SBA blank should weigh 8.1 grams -- a quarter blank should weigh 5.67 grams.

If it turns out to be struck on a quarter blank, and you get it certified as such, it will be worth $600-$800

Expertise

My strong familiarity with all U.S. Mint coins, extensive reference library, and close relationships with many other dealers allows me to identify just about any coin made in the USA. I receive regular updates to all the current price guides -- both wholesale & retail -- to provide accurate values. So, with a good description or pictures, I should be able to identify and value any U.S. coin you have.
