Question
I Don't Understand How An Overdate Or Over Mint Mark Could Occur.(Especially An Over Mint Mark) Did They Take A Coin With,Say An "S" Mint Mark, Take It To The Denver Mint & RE-Punch It? Or Just How Did This Happen?

Answer
Dies for all the mints are prepared at the Philadelphia Mint from the Hubs (Master Dies). After each die is made, the Diesinker adds only the MM and date by hand. This is where the error is made on over punches. Since it is usually done on just a single die, the don't make many coins as a rule.
