Coin and Paper Money Collecting/DOUBLE DIE PENNIES

Question
Is a double die 1968 penny rare?
If so, how much does it cost?

Also, I read a book that said if the A and M in the word "America" is separated at base in 1998- 2000 pennies is rare? Is it?

I found lots of them, but not that date...is that rare?

Please e-mail me back as soon as possible.
THANK YOU!

Answer
Hello, sorry, I have never heard of a 1968 double die penny.  Sometimes there is what is called strike doubling, where the dies are a bit loose and slip a bit in the strike.  That has no real extra value.  A double die is different, that's where the die was doubled.  The experts can tell the difference.  Anyway, a couple suggestions: try going to www.google.com and doing a search for "1968 double die" or the like and see if you get any hits.  Then try www.ebay.com with a similar search and see if anyone is selling something like your piece.  Good luck, Jim Lawniczak
