Coin and Paper Money Collecting/US/Filipinas Coin

Question
While going through some old boxes I came across a coin I can not identify.  It appears to be copper and about the size of a quarter, but with a smooth edge.  On one side it says "One Centavo Filipinas," with a picture of a man seated with his arm on an anvil and holding a hammer.  On the other side of the coin it says "United States of America"  1938, and there is a picture of an eagle above a shield.  The shield appears to have a picture of a tower (or lighthouse) and it says below the shield "Commonwealth of Philipines."  What is this?

Answer
Hi David,
The Philipines were acquired by the US in 1899 as part of a treaty with Spain ending the Spanish-American War.  However, The Philipines became an independant republic after WW2 in 1946

10,000,000 of those coins were made by the US, at Philadelphia Mint and today in used condition, they list for $2
