Coin and Paper Money Collecting/Gold (?) Bar

Question
After my father passed away, I found what may be a gold bar in his lockbox.  It's about 5"w x 3" h x 1" thick and weighs about 5 lbs.  The only markings on it have "NSC" in capital letters in the top left corner; "999 FINE" in the top right corner; and "60.91 T.O." in the bottom right corner.  One banker thought it was extremely old.  Any thoughts?  Where do I take it for verification?

Answer
Hi Jim,
If you can fax a picture or scan and email it, I may be able to help.

I have been dealing in bullion for 25+ years and have seen a lot of company logos.

If it is genuine, it's around $30,000
