Question
Hi,
I have some US government payment war certificates they have numbers on the face left hand side 66, right side E.E.C. for 10 cents series 521.  I have about 10 of them all different amounts and numbers. Do you know any thing about them?  Thanks for you help.  Myriah

Answer
Hello Myriah,

This sounds like Military Script.
I am not an authority on script but I see it all the time at the shows, mostly WWII era stuff.
The army still used Military Scrip to the 1970's and perhaps later. One of the very first things that took place when a soldier arrived in Vietnam was the exchange of your American money for script, so I know it was still issued till then.
A catalog named "Military Payment Certificates" by Fred Schwan is a detailed reference to military payment certificates. Publisher: B N R Press (May 1, 1997)  ISBN: 0931960541.  Try the library.
